Treatment for varicose veins is essential not only for cosmetic purposes as many people only do it for improved appearance but it is also necessary to do it for health reasons in order to reduce the symptoms and prevent further complications. Treating them at home only prevents the condition and does not help in the treatment of the disease. That said, there are some treatment options for varicose veins Upper East Side that may alleviate them and reduce your risk of developing the condition or keep them from getting worse. Here are some of the ways you can treat varicose veins.

    Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure where the varicose veins are injected with a solution or foam. This chemical causes varicose veins to inflate and clump together stopping the flow of blood. As a result, the varicose veins start fading within a few weeks and eventually disappear. The veins might need to be injected a couple of times so that the treatment can be more effective and speed up the healing process.

    Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a more advanced therapy done by a medical professional that helps remove the superficial veins which are swollen. It involves cutting into the varicose vein and removing them through a series of skin procedures. The varicose veins should disappear after a few treatments leaving behind minimal scarring. However, this treatment works better on smaller veins. Larger, persistent veins may require more advanced surgery if all else fails.

    Laser Treatment

This method is used to treat larger varicose veins and is done on the outside of your skin. In laser treatment there are no needles involved and neither does it involve cutting into the skin. It is done using lasers where strong beams of light are illuminated on the veins causing them to heat up and damage them. The damaged veins form a scar and seal up and eventually the veins slowly fade away and disappear.

    Thermal Ablation or Catheter-based treatment

This treatment method is often used to treat larger varicose veins as it involves either use of radiofrequency or laser energy. A catheter is put into an enlarged varicose vein and the tip of the catheter is heated using laser energy or radiofrequency. As this thin tube is being removed, the heat emitted by the catheter causes an effect on the vein, destroying it and later causing it to close.

    Vein stripping

This is a surgical procedure where high ligation is carried out. It is used to remove veins that have been destroyed and reduces complications. The affected veins are tied before they join superior veins to prevent blood flow into the diseased area and this vein is later on removed by cutting small parts. Vein stripping and high ligation stop the swelling, reduce the pain, and also improve the appearance of the legs.

There are also alternative medicines that can help treat varicose veins, though not studied well, they can be helpful in treating this disease. It is thus always best to consult a medical professional before embarking on any treatment plan.
