North America — As late winter turns into early spring, freezing nights turn into above freezing days. Wilton CT — Ambler Farm’s Maple Syrup Open House was held on Saturday, February 26 from 1:00 – 2:00pm. This event was free, open to the public and no registration was required. Attendees experienced a New England tradition of turning organic raw maple tree sap into maple syrup. Kids and families had the opportunity to tap a tree, learn about Native American, colonial, and modern methods of making syrup and taste Ambler Farm’s maple syrup over vanilla ice cream.

LM Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival
Salem, IN — LM Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival was held February 26th and 27th from 9am-5pm. There was plenty of maple (and non-maple) food items to eat including, but not limited to pancakes with maple syrup, maple cinnamon rolls, maple barbecue pork ribs and containers of maple syrup. There’s was also live music, a cowboy show, craft vendors, free tours and games for the kids.
Another LM Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival March will take place 5th and 6th from 9am-5pm
Attendees are advised to dress in comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes and waterproof boots are always recommended. Parking areas can get extremely muddy so please drive a 4WD if you can. Farm restaurant and store both accept all major debit/credit cards, cash, and personal check. Many craft vendors are cash only. The festival is very busy from 11am-2pm and there is often a wait time for parking and the restaurant during peak hours. Activities are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Carriage Hill Metropark Historical Farm Maple Sugaring Program
Dayton, OH — The Carriage Hill Metropark Historical Farm Maple Sugaring Program was held February 19 from 10:00am – 4:00pm. The event was free to attend and open to the public.
“Nature has its own way of providing us with sweeteners.” Said Rick Musselman, outdoor education director at Five Rivers MetroParks, which has been tapping its maple trees for sap at Carriage Hill MetroPark, for around 10 years.
Carriage Hill MetroPark is home to a Historical Farm where Five River’s educators and naturalists use traditional tapping tools and techniques from the 1880’s to produce maple sugar.
“What I like about it is, it has a little bit of everything,” Musselman said. “We come at it from the historical point of view, because we’re showing you how they would have done in the 1880s. … It’s got a natural history piece because we talk quite a bit about the trees, and the process of how the sap flows and how you tap a tree. Then, we also come at it from the how-to part, where we explain the process.”
“When you’re catching the sap, it’s actually flowing up from the roots from moisture and water collected in the roots,” Musselman said. “It’s actually flowing up the tree to go up into the branches and out into the buds that are forming in the spring.”tunai4d
