HealthTap is a telehealth service that provides access to primary care and urgent care doctors around the clock. Members can schedule appointments online and get medical advice via video chat, text messaging, or a question submission.
Doctors on HealthTap can write prescriptions and order lab tests for their patients. However, they cannot prescribe narcotics or controlled substances, psychiatric medications, or other regulated medications.
Basic Plan
The Basic Plan is $15 per month and provides consumers with access to free texting, $39 video appointments and $59 visits for urgent care. Members also have access to a network of 90,000 U.S.-licensed physicians in 147 specialties who provide free informational answers to HealthTap members’ health questions.
The doctors on HealthTap can help patients avoid unnecessary ER visits, order lab tests, and provide doctor-ordered prescriptions that can be sent to a local pharmacy or directly to their home. However, HealthTap does not write prescriptions for narcotics and controlled substances, psychiatric medications, or illegal drugs.
The platform is HIPAA-compliant and all patient data is protected under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Its physicians are also subject to extensive verification by HealthTap.
Prime Plan
HealthTap offers a free basic plan that allows users to chat with a doctor and receive advice for a variety of conditions. However, if you want to be able to video chat with a doctor and also receive personalized reminders for your medications, then you should opt for its Prime Plan.
The Prime Plan costs $15 per month billed three months at a time. It includes 24/7 access to on-demand care, your choice of primary care doctor and more.
The service provides virtual consultations by HD video, text and voice from any iOS or PC or Mac device. These can be used for a wide range of medical issues, including some dental problems and mental health concerns.
One-to-One Sessions
HealthTap is a virtual healthcare company that provides video consultations. Its service is available through the website and mobile app.
A member’s cost depends on their subscription plan and the length of a session. A 30 minute one-to-one is $39.
Members can also use the site for free to get answers to anonymous questions and symptom checkers. However, a membership is required to access specialized telemedicine services.
At SDC22, HealthTap showcased a new feature that lets users see a doctor on their smart TVs. The app is available for US customers.
Medication
HealthTap members can request prescriptions and have them sent to their pharmacy for pickup or delivered directly to their home. Some telehealth platforms don’t allow doctors to fill prescriptions or order lab tests, so this might be an important feature for some consumers.
Another service available on HealthTap is RateRX, which enables doctors to weigh in on the efficacy of medications for specific conditions. Founder Ron Gutman says that doctors can provide an informed, educated perspective on medication recommendations as they have years of experience prescribing and seeing the drugs work for patients.
Doctors can also provide referrals to specialists. However, they cannot write prescriptions for narcotics, controlled substances, or psychiatric illnesses.
