Dental problems are often the result of poor diet and lack of cleanliness, which means that if you take care to feed your child properly and ensure they brush their teeth twice a  day, then you should be able to dodge most dental woes. However, as we all know, good intentions are not always enough. So, it is best to get a dentist to check your children’s dental health regularly for early detection of dental issues. You can click here for help if you are looking out for a pediatric dentist for your child.

This article will explain the 6 common dental issues among children:

    • Tooth decay or cavities

Tooth decay is a decayed tooth brought on by bacteria in the mouth. It is caused when food particles are left on your child’s teeth. The bacteria break down the sugars in the food, creating acid that damages the tooth enamel. This can be prevented by regular brushing, flossing, and regular dental checkups.

    • Tooth sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is a condition that makes it hard or impossible for children to eat certain foods. The cause of tooth sensitivity is the tooth becoming sensitive to the acids in food. Your child may experience pain in the jaw, sore throat, and lightheadedness when they eat or drink acidic foods. This can be caused by poor dental hygiene and bad nutrition.

    • Orthodontic problems

Orthodontic problems are usually related to the alignment of the teeth. These include crowded, crooked, or protruding teeth. Or teeth may be coming in at unusual angles. Such issues can be cosmetically corrected with braces and retainers.

    • Pediatric gum disease

Pediatric gum disease is a term used to describe inflammation of the gums and supporting tissue that holds teeth in place. The most common cause is a lack of good dental hygiene, which can be prevented by brushing twice daily and flossing regularly.

    • Thumb sucking

Thumb sucking is an unhealthy habit or an addiction to sucking one’s thumb. It can cause injury to the tissue of the thumb and soft pallet of the mouth. The result is a number of problems, including acute gingivitis and possibly permanent damage to the jaw, cheeks, and tongue.

    • Bad breath

Bad breath (halitosis) is a common problem for children as well as adults. It’s caused by a bad diet and poor dental hygiene, and the best way to deal with it is to brush your teeth regularly and drink plenty of water.
