With an increasing number of parents choosing to travel and reside abroad with their adult children, the Parent Visa is gaining popularity among ex-pats. Sponsoring a parent for permanent residence in your country is no easy task. Parents who wish to live with their adult child must meet certain criteria set by immigration laws.
To sponsor your parent, you, as the primary applicant, must meet specific eligibility criteria. A sponsorship application will require proof of your income, housing arrangements, and relationship with the parent applicant. As such, there are certain things that you should keep in mind before applying for a Parent Visa.
Sponsoring a parent may be challenging but not impossible. With adequate preparation and documentation, you can increase your chances of success when applying for a Parent Visa. Here are seven basic tips for sponsoring a parent visa:
1. Ensure that you are financially stable
The primary applicants who want to sponsor a parent must show that they are financially stable. In the Parent Visa application, you must submit a detailed financial statement. This form will require you to list your income, sources of income, and assets and liabilities. If you are not financially stable, immigration authorities can deny your application.
2. Ensure that you have adequate housing for your extended family members
In addition to meeting the financial requirements, the main applicant must have adequate housing for the extended family members. Therefore, you should submit a detailed plan on how your family members will be able to live in their intended country of residence (the country where the parent is applying for permanent residence).
The main applicant must also prove that he can provide his extended family with accommodations at an affordable rate (this includes food and utilities). If you cannot provide adequate accommodation for your extended family, immigration authorities can deny your Parent Visa application.
3. Monitor Your Social Media Output
As a parent sponsor, you should be careful about what social media posts you make. The Department of Homeland Security will scrutinize your social media accounts to check if you are misrepresenting facts or hiding information.
